Orthopedics
Orthopedic injuries and diseases are very common problems treated by veterinary surgeons. These problems may be traumatic, congenital or developmental in origin. The surgeons at Veterinary Specialists of Rochester have received advanced training in the evaluation and treatment of Orthopedic injuries and disease. They are familiar with the most current diagnostic modalities and treatment techniques available today. They can help determine if your pet’s problem requires surgery to alleviate his/her discomfort.

Ally, Animal Care Assistant with Ogee
The first step in this process is a physical and Orthopedic examination. Your surgeon will thoroughly evaluate your pet to identify the problem or problems that may be present. These problems will be discussed with you in detail, including diagnostic and treatment options, prognosis for recovery, and an estimate for services. Once a plan is agreed upon between you and your doctor, the wheels will be set in motion to provide optimal, timely care for your pet. If appropriate, our rehabilitation therapist will consult with you and your surgeon prior to surgery to establish a plan for rehabilitation therapy.
The Surgery Team is composed of two board certified surgeons, 1 house officer surgeon, 1 surgery resident, 1 surgery intern, five surgical technicians, two surgical assistants, and two rehabilitation therapy technicians. They work together as a group to provide the most complete and compassionate care for your pet. They have extensive knowledge in animal pain management techniques and will work together to make sure that your pet has the most comfortable experience possible both during and after his/her hospital stay.
In addition to the skills of a board certified surgeon, a dedicated surgical technician staff and rehabilitation therapy team, your pet will also have the advantage of receiving 24 hour care while in our hospital. There is always at least one doctor and a full technician staff present in our hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your pet will receive individualized attention and treatment based on his/her needs. Your surgeon will contact you daily to update you on your pet’s status and to arrange personalized discharge when it is time for your pet to go home. You may visit your pet while he/she is hospitalized if he/she will be with us for an extended stay. To allow our staff to provide appropriate care for all patients we ask you to adhere to our established visitation times.
